Great motorcycle ride from north Pinellas County |
We leave the house around 9 or 10am from Palm Harbor
get
over to alt 19. We take alt 19 south bound and on Saturday or Sunday
morning there isn’t a lot of traffic so you can take it slow. We head
down through Clearwater and go over the route 60 bridge to Clearwater
Beach.
The causeway heading towards the beaches
is a beautiful vista with all the flowers and plants, take your
time. We negotiate the round-a-bout and head over towards the
right. That road goes out on the beach side of the island. If
you find a place to park for a little while take advantage of
the opportunity. There is still a lot
of construction going on at Clearwater Beach but its not as bad
as last year. The beach area has been beautified and it does
look good. Then we go over the Sand Key bridge heading south.
If you have time ride through the Sand Key Beach Park at the
bottom of the bridge it beautiful.
I’m always amazed at the high rise
condos on Sand Key Beach. They all look pretty and big. I wonder
if they’ll be there after a big hurricane.
As you head south on the inter-coastal
road (Gulf Blvd)
there are lots of places to park and check out the beaches.
In the Bellaire area it’s a little harder to park and walk out
the beaches. There are access points but no place to park in
that town. When we get down near Seminole we watch for the
Lighthouse Donut Shop on the east side of the road.
We stop and get a bagel, donut and coffee and that’s a nice
break.
Then we head back up the coast to Palm
Harbor.
The ride usually takes about 2 to 3 hours.
